About

of Elna and Ei: “Light has increasingly been taken for granted as products are designed and produced to make user interaction obsolete or at the very least, limited. This detachment from such an emotional need has created living spaces which are static and sterile, devoid of emotional wealth. Yes, the light is still utilized, creating sense of warmth, our control of time, however they sit in the corner of our rooms. Interacted with minimally or on our ceilings not physically interacted with at all, they are left abandoned and utilized to a miniscule degree. Elna and Ei desire to portray our vision of how light should be celebrated and embraced, to create environments in which we no longer take it for granted, we respect it. We interact with it. There is a connection. We are the melding of art, design, and emotion. A celebration of light ensues.” After much intrigue and inquiry… Our name, which is the identity of this exploration, comes from the tools we utilize in its creation. “Elna” is the knitting machine who makes fast paced concept development and fabrication possible. “Ei” is in reference to the diffusor embracing the light source from our very first prototype, the shell of an ostrich egg.
